The Junk Lamp is an exercise in sustainability martyrdom. While there are many cases of people creating objects out of trash, their final form tends to resemble just that, objects made of trash. Sustainability will never become common place if it is continually used as a selling point for a product. This is only a deterrent to the people that need to accept it the most, the non believers.
The Junk Lamp attempts to create an attractive functional lamp from trash without showcasing its genealogy. Although its form is directly derived from refuse, the final result does not betray its origin.
The shade is formed inside a taped discarded plastic sheet, the support bar is cast inside a broken flourecent bulb, and the base is cast inside the bucket with which the plaster was mixed.
